What is B Corp and why it’s important to us

Businesses that are B Corp certified, have shown that they meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

The Green Insurer’s vision to give customers a genuine option to buy green insurance easily, aligns with the B Corp principles. By entering into the B Corp Certification process we’re holding ourselves to the highest standard and making ourselves accountable for our actions as a business. We’ve already had to make some changes to be eligible and are delighted to have been accepted by B Corp.

B Corp Certification requirements

There are three foundational pillars of being a B Corp:

  1. 1. Social & Environmental Performance
Social and Environmental Performance is measured using B Corp’s B Impact Assessment, in which companies have to get a verified score of at least 80, then pass a disclosure questionnaire review. The Green Insurer has already completed an assessment. This will put us in a great position to become fully B Corp certified once we have been up and running for a full year.
  2. 2. Accountability
Companies must adopt a legal framework to consider all stakeholders. This is also a requirement of B Corp Pending and The Green Insurer has already made this change.
  3. 3. Transparency
Companies must make their score transparent on the B Corp Directory. We can’t wait!

Why are we B Corp Pending and not B Corp Certified

One of the minimum requirements for B Corp Certification is that you must have been trading for 12 months. Once we’ve been trading for 12 months, we’ll start the B Corp Certification application.

What is B Corp Pending?

B Corp Pending or Pending B Corp status is designed to give start-ups like us time to prepare for the full B Corp Certification, whilst signalling our intent to manage our social and environmental performance. To be authorised as B Corp Pending, we have had to meet some of the certification requirements, so we really feel ready to complete our B Corp journey once we’re old enough.
