Are there any age restrictions for learner driver policies?
Our learner driver insurance is available to learners aged 17-25 years old. Although there is no legal maximum age, we cannot cover any customers over 25. Our policy is designed especially for younger drivers and their parents, so we have not made it available to anyone over 25 just yet.
Also, we cannot provide learner driver insurance to 16-year olds in receipt of a PIP (Personal Independence Payment), although they too can drive legally.
If you’re under 17 and planning ahead, you can still apply for your provisional licence early – but you’ll need to wait until your 17th birthday to start driving on the road and take out a learner driver policy. To apply for your first provisional driving licence, you must be at least 15 years and 9 months old.
With The Green Insurer’s learner driver insurance policies, the supervisor must be aged 25 and over and held a full UK driving licence for more than 3 years. For some insurance providers the supervisor must be at least 21 rather than 25.
