Can learner drivers go on a dual carriageway?

Yes, learner drivers can drive on dual carriageways so long as they have L plates on the car and are supervised by a someone over 25 years old who has a full driving licence. Driving tests can also include some time on a dual carriageway if there is one nearby. So, it's a good idea to get in some dual carriageway practise before your driving test if you can. But start on smaller, quiet roads and build up your confidence before tackling these faster roads, which also have more complicated junctions and may have slip roads for you to manage.

If there aren't any dual carriageways near where you practise driving, think about how you can get some supervised practise on one before you pass you test. Maybe you will be away from home with a parent or the person that normally supervises your driving and there will be a dual carriageway nearby.
