Do I get a refund if I cancel my learner driver policy?
You will get a pro rata refund of the insurance premium for any policy longer than 30 days. If you have a policy of longer than 30 days and cancel in the first 30 days, you will get a refund of the days over the 30-day minimum.
The cost per day reduces as the policy duration increases. So longer policies give you better value and avoid you needing to remember to extend your policy each time it expires. Passing your driving test will take you some time, so you may be better off buying a longer policy and then cancelling it if you pass your test before it expires.
The total amount you pay is made up of an underwriting or insurer premium. This is to cover the cost of any claims and it is the part which is refundable if you cancel after 30 days. The other part of your premium is a fixed fee and is to go towards covering some of our costs for managing and distributing learner driver insurance. This part is not refundable, as we have already incurred these costs as soon as you take out your policy.
Cancellations cannot be backdated, so it is important to tell us as soon as you want to cancel, for example if you pass you driving test.
